Individual Therapy - What to Expect
Starting therapy can feel like a big step, particularly if you’re not sure what to expect. Your first appointment is an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you would like support with, and what you hope to work towards.
At the beginning of your first session, we’ll go through some general housekeeping, including consent, confidentiality and how the therapeutic process works. I’ll explain what you can expect from therapy, including the limits of confidentiality, and you’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions before we begin.
We’ll then spend some time discussing your current situation, what you’ve been experiencing, and any relevant background or history. We’ll talk about what you would like to change or work on and begin identifying some goals for therapy. You’ll also have the opportunity to get a feel for whether therapy with me feels like the right fit for you.
You don’t need to prepare anything or know exactly what to say. Future sessions will be guided by your individual needs and goals, using evidence-based psychological approaches and practical strategies where appropriate.
Therapy is a collaborative process, and we’ll work together at a pace that feels manageable for you.
Couples Counselling - What to Expect
Couples counselling provides a space for both partners to talk openly about their relationship with the support of a psychologist. The focus is on understanding the patterns within the relationship, improving communication and working towards meaningful change together.
During your first session, we’ll go through some general housekeeping, including consent, confidentiality and how couples counselling works. We’ll discuss what has brought you to counselling, hear from each partner about their perspective and identify the areas you would like to work on together.
Future sessions may explore communication, conflict, emotional connection, expectations, boundaries and recurring patterns within the relationship. I’ll provide guidance and practical strategies to help you understand one another and develop more effective ways of communicating and responding.
Couples counselling is a collaborative process. Both partners will have an opportunity to be heard, and the aim is to create a balanced and respectful space where you can work together towards a healthier relationship.

Medicare & Private Health Rebates
I accept Medicare Mental Health Care Plans (MHCP) and private health insurance with psychological cover.
For eligible clients with a Medicare Mental Health Care Plan, the current Medicare rebate for a 50-minute consultation with a general psychologist is $101.55. This leaves an out-of-pocket cost of $148.45 for an initial consultation ($250) and $118.45 for subsequent consultations ($220).
The full consultation fee is paid on the day of your appointment. The Medicare rebate will be processed by the end of the day, with the rebate returned to your nominated account.
Couples counselling is not eligible for a Medicare rebate under a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). The full couples counselling fee is payable at the time of your appointment. Private health insurance rebates may be available depending on your level of cover.
Private health insurance claims are not processed onsite. If you have private health cover for psychology, you will need to pay the consultation fee in full and make your claim directly with your health insurer. Rebates vary between health funds and individual policies.
I do not currently offer services under the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA), National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), or WorkCover arrangements and I am currently unable to offer discounted rates for concession or pension card holders. My standard fees apply to all appointments.
Accessing a Mental Health Care Plan
If you would like to access the Medicare rebate for psychological therapy, you may be eligible for support through the Better Access initiative.
A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is generally prepared by your GP or another eligible prescribed medical practitioner following an assessment of your mental health. Your GP can then provide a referral to a psychologist for eligible psychological services.
Alternatively, a psychiatrist or paediatrician can provide a direct referral for eligible psychological services.
If you are unsure whether you are eligible or which referral pathway is appropriate for you, your GP or psychiatrist can provide further information.
